About the venue

Tipu Sultan’s Palace preserves the last splendid structure within the old fort at Bengaluru and remains a distinguished example of courtly architecture. Its form, decorative program, and carefully articulated spaces convey the artistic refinement associated with the Mysore rulers.

Historical Background

The palace comprises two storeys arranged around a large forecourt that once contained a fountain and a small ornamental garden. Though the original painted and gilded surfaces have largely faded, traces of these embellishments still survive, offering rare insight into the visual grandeur that characterized the royal residence.

Location and Significance

Situated within the historic fort precinct in Bengaluru, the palace reflects Tipu Sultan’s administrative and ceremonial presence. The projecting eastern and western chambers of the upper floor once housed royal seats from which the Sultan oversaw state affairs, reinforcing the building’s political importance.

Architectural Materials and Design

The facade displays stately fluted wooden pillars on the north and south, linked by cusped arches, while the surrounding chambers highlight contrasting spatial proportions. The zenana rooms, with their deliberately low ceilings, were richly painted and emphasize the intricate interior craftsmanship that defines the monument.

This place isn’t bad. There is a form you have to fill and pay a nominal fee of 20/- to get the entry, you can do that in advance as well. The gardens surrounding the palace is great. The palace itself is old and fairly maintained, it’s a very short palace and you can click some great pics here. But apart from that there’s nothing much to do. Good to visit once but not again and again. Overall a good experience.Read More

A beautiful and peaceful piece of 18th-century history! The all-teakwood structure is incredibly impressive, and the intricate carvings on the pillars and balconies are truly a work of art. It’s very well-maintained by the ASI and surrounded by lush green lawns. It doesn't take too long to explore, making it a perfect quick stop to appreciate the city's rich heritage.Read More

Tipu Sultan’s Summer Palace is one of Bengaluru’s hidden historical gems. Nestled near the bustling KR Market, the moment you step inside, you’re transported back to the 18th century. The beautifully carved teakwood pillars, elegant arches, and Indo-Islamic architecture reflect the craftsmanship of a bygone era. The palace may not be very large, but every corner tells a story of history and heritage. (Bengaluru Urban) The small museum inside provides interesting information about Tipu Sultan’s life and the history of the palace, making the visit both educational and enjoyable. The gardens are well maintained, offering a peaceful contrast to the busy streets outside. A leisurely visit takes about 30–45 minutes, making it an ideal stop while exploring old Bengaluru. (Incredible India) Overall, it’s a must-visit for history lovers, architecture enthusiasts, and anyone wanting to experience a different side of Bengaluru. Affordable, well preserved, and rich in history, Tipu Sultan’s Summer Palace is definitely worth adding to your itinerary.Read More

Tipu Sultan's Summer Palace is a well-preserved archaeological monument and an interesting place to visit while in Bengaluru. One important thing to know before visiting is that there is no traditional ticket counter at the site. Entry tickets must be purchased online, although the process is very convenient as QR codes are available at the entrance for instant digital ticket booking. The entry fee is reasonably priced, and the palace is open daily from 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM. While the exterior of the palace appears quite simple and modest, the real beauty reveals itself once you step inside. The wooden pillars, intricately designed arches, and wooden flooring create a unique historical atmosphere and transport visitors back in time. The craftsmanship and architecture reflect the elegance of the era and provide a glimpse into the lifestyle of Tipu Sultan. The palace is not very large, so it can be explored comfortably in a short time. It is also an excellent location for photography, with plenty of beautiful architectural details and heritage-inspired backgrounds for photos and selfies. Overall, Tipu Sultan's Summer Palace is worth a visit for history enthusiasts, architecture lovers, and anyone interested in Bengaluru's rich cultural heritage. It may look ordinary from the outside, but the interior charm and historical significance make it a memorable experience.Read More

Visited Tipu Sultan’s Summer Palace in July 2026. For an entry fee of just ₹20, it’s definitely worth a visit. At the entrance, you’ll need to scan a QR code to complete the registration before entering. The palace has great historical significance, but it would be even better if the building were maintained more carefully. The landscaping around the palace is well maintained, but I did notice a few rats inside the compound, which was disappointing. Overall, it’s a good place to visit if you’re interested in history and architecture.Read More
